  • This course with Julie is an introduction to Numicon for all teachers, RTLB’s, LSC’s, SENCO’s and Teacher Aides who want to learn what Numicon is and how to use it. Numicon is designed to help all children from level 1-4 of the curriculum succeed in maths. It is created by teachers and experts in the field based on a proven concrete, pictorial, abstract approach. Numicon encourages children to explore maths using structured imagery and concrete apparatus in order to understand and explain maths concepts. We will look at the printed resources, the apparatus, and the use of manipulatives in your maths programme. You will leave with some resources and many ideas for use in your classroom.

  • Catherine will be presenting a course on the use of Numicon across all year levels. If you don't know what Numicon is, here's your opportunity. We will also take a more in-depth discovery to get more from the Teaching Handbooks, as well as cover assessment and implementation. You might have attended our Zoom courses, so this is a great opportunity to build on that course. This course is suitable for teachers, teacher aides, SENCO, RTLBs and LSCs.

We will look at the teaching programme including Breaking Barriers which is specially written for students with high learning needs. Participants will get to use the Numicon equipment and will receive a maths bag full of resources to use back in class.

  • Margaret Slack is presenting a course for teachers, LSC's SENCO's, RTLB's, ALIM teachers and Learning assistants to explore why children struggle with Maths. Margaret will show you the Numicon resources to support students from YEAR 0 - 10 designed to support students who are well below and below expectations of the curriculum. Margaret will also give you tools to include these students in your regular classroom programme as well as running programmes alongside as an ALIM resource. Numicon as a catch-up is also able to support teachers working with students who have missed schooling this year due to Covid restrictions. You will receive informative handouts and a Maths Bag of resources to take away with you.

  • Join us to become confident and capable in using the Numicon approach. We are running a course to equip you to run Breaking Barriers, the Numicon Intervention Programme and Big Ideas. • Breaking Barriers is a differentiated programme written for teachers and TA’s and specialist teachers working with students who have High Learning Needs/Special Needs • The Numicon Intervention Programme is a 15 week programme supporting students who are not making age expected progress in years 1 – 9., covering Level 1 and 2a of the Curriculum • Big Ideas is a catch-up course for 12 weeks from students in Years 6 – 9 who need a reminder or revision of the big ideas in Maths – Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication Division, Fractions Decimals and Percentages. Who should attend? This course is suitable for Maths lead teachers, teachers, teacher aides, SENCOs, RTLB's, LSC’s, MOE staff and specialist tutors. It is intended for teachers who are involved with classroom and/or remedial mathematics teaching. The day will cover: - What is Numicon? - Bruner, CPA and the impact of using structured apparatus - Teaching resources, Apparatus knowledge - How does Numicon help children learn so easily? - Understanding number sense - Difficulties in understanding maths and dyscalculia - In-depth knowledge and strategies with + - x ÷ - Place value and fractions - Understanding the programmes Breaking Barriers, Numicon Intervention Programme and Big Ideas. - Planning and assessment, linked to the NZ Curriculum Auckland Venue TBA
