The course covers why Maths is tricky to learn and teach, how Numicon helps children understand abstract concepts, using the Numicon equipment yourself and how to use the Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook. Any Teacher Aides supporting Maths learning should be eligible for the Teacher Aide PLD pilot fund. Participants will get to use the Numicon equipment and a Maths Bag of resources to use on the course and back in class. COURSE OPTIONS (to be chosen when booking the course): Option 1: Includes provision of Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook = $450.00 + GST Option 2: Does NOT include provision of Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook = $220.00 + GST.

This course is an Introduction to Numicon particularly aimed at teacher aides who are working with students who struggle with maths. The course covers why Maths is tricky to learn and teach, how Numicon helps children understand abstract concepts, using the Numicon equipment yourself and how to use the Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook. Any Teacher Aides supporting Maths learning should be eligible for the Teacher Aide PLD pilot fund. The morning consists a background story about why they introduced Numicon to the school and the results followed by extended time visiting Years 1 - 8 classrooms and talking with the teachers during the morning break.
