  • This is the first of three series throughout the year to equip teachers, tutors, RTLB's, LSC's and parents to build up our knowledge of maths and the real difficulty of learning and understanding, but also using it in school and everyday life. Judy has studied this for many years and has been mentored by Steve Chinn and others. She has visited NZ several time, including last year - the week before lockdown! This booking is for 3 sessions in April - $225.00 + GST per person.

  • This course is an Introduction to Numicon particularly aimed at teacher aides who are working with students who struggle with maths. The course covers why Maths is tricky to learn and teach, how Numicon helps children understand abstract concepts, using the Numicon equipment yourself and how to use the Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook. Any Teacher Aides supporting Maths learning should be eligible for the Teacher Aide PLD pilot fund. Participants will get to use the Numicon equipment and a Maths Bag of resources to use on the course and back in class.   • This is a course for Teacher Aides working with students who are struggling with maths particularly students from Years 7-13 working at Level 1-3 of the NZC. This course will cover number sense. place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, percentages and decimals. We will explain how to use the Breaking Barriers Teaching Handbook. We recommend attendees purchase the book, Breaking Barriers ($225 + GST).   • Neil's third series supports those students studying for tests, but also younger writers who are challenged in writing non-fiction. Tests provide an extra challenge for students - the language is different and the response is different. Neil will guide us in supporting students in preparation for tests and exams coming up.
