Numicon is a proven inclusive mathematical approach for all levels of the curriculum. It is a practical based method which develops conceptual understanding of Maths, learning through play and the use of concrete materials. Problem solving, using real-life contexts underpins the activities allowing for practical applications and purpose.
The course will be run by Margaret Slack BEd Dip Teach, ex Assistant Principal at Patumahoe with over 30 years teaching locally - trained by Margi Leech. She will be presenting an introduction to Numicon for all teachers, RTLB, and TAs who want to learn what Numicon is and how to use it. We will look at the printed resources as well as the apparatus and explore the use of manipulatives within your math programme. The course will also introduce the use of intervention programmes, Breaking Barriers, Big Ideas and the Numicon Intervention programme (NIP).
We will provide you with a Maths Bag to take away.
Morning tea is also provided but please bring your own lunch.
This course is at Parkside School, 184 Wellington Street, Pukekohe.
